Ingredients:
-
Sandwich bread (white bread or “pan bauletto”), crusts removed
-
2 tablespoons tomato sauce
-
3 black olives, chopped
-
Fresh basil leaves
-
Pasta filata cheese (like mozzarella or provolone), shredded or sliced
-
Dried oregano
-
Grated Parmesan cheese
-
Olive oil
-
1 egg, beaten
-
Breadcrumbs
-
Salt and pepper
Instructions:
-
Flatten a slice of crustless sandwich bread using a rolling pin. On the diagonal, add a spoonful of tomato sauce, chopped olives, oregano, cheese, and a basil leaf.
-
Fold the opposite corners together to form a cannoli shape and press to seal.
-
Dip each cannolo in the beaten egg (seasoned with salt and pepper), then coat it in breadcrumbs.
-
Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 15 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Tip: For extra crispiness, lightly brush the tops with olive oil before baking. Serve warm!
